Hi my name is Brian and I am 72 years young. Every day is a new learning experience and I am writing a few words on the day my son introduced me to my first Apple iPad. To be honest technology was never a strong point of mine and I always had the fear of doing something wrong on a computer and not having the knowhow of sorting it out.
Well that all changed with my introduction to the iPad. First of all, it’s smaller and lighter than my laptop, its touch screen – so I only need to use one magic typing finger. The iPad is driven by ‘Apps’ so you touch on an ‘App Symbol’ on the screen and it opens up.
So what difference has it made to me – I can listen to my music through iTunes or Spotify. I can do all my internet browsing (I think that’s the term they used) – google, donedeal, booking flights & hotels etc. I can send and receive my e-mails. I can do my banking, but I’m a bit old fashioned and like a trip every once and a while into my local bank. The most fun thing I can do is “FaceTime” – this lets me call my grandchildren up on video link and have a full face to face conversation – this is great as it’s not always easy to get everyone together.
The iPad has allowed a technophobe like me to have a very power piece of technology in my hands and do things with simplicity and easy. It takes the fear factor away of not knowing what to do when you press a wrong key on a computer. I have even invested in an iPhone – not bad for an old folkie.
I will keep you updated on my progress and any new things I might learn. Bye for now.
